About Us

Lighting for Landscapes was established in 1996 and has gained a reputation for providing subtle and creative lighting schemes.

Our main focus is on residential gardens of all sizes from small town house gardens to country estates and our aim is to enable our clients to enjoy a 24 hour garden.

We have designed both interior and exterior lighting, not only for private residential homes but also for churches, historical buildings, corporate headquarters and hotels.

As an independent company we are able to offer the full range of light fittings, giving our customers a wide choice.

The principal designer is John Marriott, who comes from a garden design background having studied at Merrist Wood College. He has contributed to and participated in several television programmes and designed lighting schemes for many award-winning gardens at Chelsea and Hampton Court Flower Shows. John combines an understanding of the needs of landscape professionals, plus a true passion for plants to design lighting schemes that are subtle and sympathetic to their surroundings.

About Our Products

We offer the full range of low voltage, underwater and mains lighting equipment. Our products are sourced from reputable manufacturers around the world and our emphasis is on quality and reliability. The fittings are made from durable materials such as brass, copper, stainless steel, turned or cast aluminium and all carry the manufacturers’ guarantee.

About Our Electrical Contractors

We have had a long and very successful association with our electrical contractors. They are highly skilled and completely reliable. Their expertise extends beyond normal electrical installation into sophisticated computerised controls and communication systems.

In addition, they are the only contractors we know who will tread gently through your garden and treat your plants as plants and not as weeds!

If you have your own contractor, we will be happy to oversee the installation but there would be an additional fee for this service.

Our Advice

Start with an overall lighting plan, then…

  • buy quality not quantity
  • do not be tempted to over-light your garden
  • be considerate and avoid light pollution
  • with budgetary constraints light a small area well and then have the enjoyment of adding to your lighting scheme when you can
  • ensure all fittings carry the manufacturers' guarantee because if not, they may end up being re-cycled sooner than you expected.
  • avoid cheap imitation fittings

Free Demonstrations

If you do not know the difference between a “garden with lights” and a “well lit garden”, then we will come and show you.

What will we show you? We will show you.......

  • how to change harsh security lighting into a magical combination of light and shadows and yet with enough ambient lighting to provide security
  • how to enhance beautiful architecture by grazing walls with light, highlighting features and with the subtle use of colour
  • how to create an enchanted night time garden. Imagine the pleasure of switching on your garden lights on a dark winter morning and watching the wind rustle through the trees or seeing light on falling snow
  • how an underwater light placed in moving water can reflect intriguing ripples of light onto a nearby wall
  • how a statue takes on a different form and mood at night with the combined effects of moonlighting and uplighting
  • how an up-lit tree, whose trunk and branches are traced with light, can take your breath away
  • how to guide guests to your front door, down steps or under arches using strategically placed welcoming pools of light
  • how you need to choose what plants to light; some will be enhanced by light whilst others are better left in darkness
  • how you need to look carefully to find the source of the light from our cleverly concealed light fittings
